Surf Lodge Costa Rica
The Surf Lodge Costa Rica is located directly at Playa Avellanas. On one side of the camp is the best beachbreak of the region and on the other side you will find the jungle of Costa Rica.
Our Surf Lodge Costa Rica has been newly renovated and consists of a large main house and various bungalows. In the main house there are common areas, like the big living room, where you can chill together with other surf buddies.
Our dining area is located outside on the covered terrace, here you will also find a bar and various seating areas. Pure jungle feeling awaits you in our garden, next to an infinity pool with a view over the area, you stroll along different paths to the individual bungalows, which are distributed in the garden. In each bungalow you will find one of our room categories.
When you book with us, you will receive breakfast and dinner every day. So you can relax and concentrate on your leisure activities. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning and free wifi is available throughout the camp. If you need a surf spot or party shuttle to the more remote areas, we have dedicated drivers for you at the camp so you can explore the country worry free.
Avellanas
Avellanas is a quiet surf town with a few bars, restaurants and supermarkets. Get away from it all, explore the jungle, discover waterfalls and surf the most consistent beach break in Costa Rica. If you feel like some adventure, you should definitely take a trip into the jungle and start an expedition tour with our guides. For a contrast, we offer to take you and your friends to the party town of Tamarindo, just 20 minutes away.
Skate park
In Playa Verde a big skatepark with bowl is waiting for you. Here you can improve your balance and work on your moves besides the surf sessions.
Palo Verde National Park
Palo Verde National Park is perfect for a day trip. The park is a sanctuary for countless animals and is home to many species of birds and reptiles. During the tours you will meet monkeys, parrots, crocodiles and other reptiles. Another highlight in the area are the waterfalls of Llanos de Cortez. Here you can cool off in the tropical heat and discover Costa Rica's wildlife between the jungle trails.
Double room
Double room is the most luxurious option in our house for you. This comfortable room is perfect for two people. It is equipped with private bathroom, king size bed and air conditioning. The windows have mosquito nets and there is a large balcony with a view of the jungle.
Pipeline
Our modern 6-bed dorm Pipeline is the perfect accommodation if you want to spend a longer time cheaply in the jungle. The room is spacious, so you have enough room for your clothes and essentials. Here you can exchange with other surfers and together you can check out the different surf spots on the coast.
All windows in the room are equipped with mosquito nets, air conditioning ensures a comfortable temperature in the room. The room also has a private bathroom with hot water connection.
Little Hawaii
This room is perfect for small groups and for solo travelers who like it more quiet. Here you will stay in one room with only 3 other guests. It offers enough storage space for your belongings, comfortable beds and a private bathroom. Of course, this room is also equipped with mosquito nets and air conditioning.
Bungalow Suite
The Bungalow Suites are our high end room categories. Located in the tropical garden with a view of the jungle, the suite has large beds, air conditioning and mosquito protection. If you want to treat yourself to something special on your vacation, we highly recommend this room category.
Community spaces
At the surf camp you can cool off in the pool and chat with your friends on the veranda. The camp meals are served in the outdoor lounge. Hammocks are spread around the garden and in the yoga shalla you can really relax.
If you have never surfed before or if you still feel unsafe alone in the sea, then this surf course is perfect for you. Here you go with a small group and surf instructors together to the beach and get a detailed introduction to the world of surfing.
Avellanas hosts one of the most constant beach breaks along the coast of Costa Rica. The special thing about the place is its relative seclusion. Perfect to learn surfing in peace or to familiarize yourself with the element of water.
We have a small course key, you will go into the water with a maximum of 5 students at the same time. During the surf lessons you will get theory units with important information like right of way rules, currents, creation of waves, etc. In addition, you will learn from us what else you should pay attention to on your board while surfing.
Before the practice lessons we basically warm up and in the water a surf coach is always at your disposal. You will be improved after your first attempts, corrected and thus learn bit by bit more and more about the correct body position in the water. At the end of the week you are ready to surf your first waves on your own.
If you have already spent a few weeks surfing and you can move independently in the water, then surf guiding is an absolute must for you. Here our guides will take you to the best surf spots on the coast, of course adapted to your skill level.
The guides will give you important tips and hints on the individual surf spots and explain to you how you can get into the line up the fastest and how you should position yourself best in the wave. If you are unsure when and where the best conditions are in the area or you want to surf with a surf buddy, then book surf guiding in advance.
The surf coaching is a training program specially adapted to you. Here one of our coaches goes with you into the water and watches you very closely with your individual body movements. The coach corrects mistakes and shows you ways to improve. Whether it's how you paddle, lie on the board, hold your upper body, do your take off, ride turns, pump or distribute your balance on the board - our coaches see it all. In addition, we will teach you everything you need to know about surfing and wave formation in a theory session.
You can safely leave your wetsuit at home for your Costa Rica surf trip, because the water temperatures are always around 27°C. If you don't want to transport your board by plane, you can rent one at the camp for 80 € per week. You can choose between longboards, malibus, mini malibus and shortboards.
By the way, in the Premium Package the board rental is already included, as well as the guiding and the surf course..
Costa Rica is a diverse country and so are the possibilities in leisure. Not far from the house beach are several reefs where you can explore the marine life underwater. The three nearby national parks are perfect to give you a glimpse into one of the few untouched jungles. Parrots, monkeys, turtles and crocodiles await you here.
Tamarindo is located 20 minutes from Avellanas and is the party capital of Costa Rica. So if you want to immerse yourself in the Central American nightlife, you will find a suitable opportunity here.
Of course, we also offer you other activities besides great excursions. Without traveling long distances, you can always book a yoga class to improve your flexibility or train your sense of balance for surfing. On a SUP tour you can explore new beaches along the coast or relax on the ocean.
Besides surfing, Costa Rica is famous for its flora and fauna! With a little luck you can meet a monkey already in the camp. In any case, walks along the coast and through the rainforest are a must. In addition to various national parks, the waterfalls in the neighboring town of Montezuma are also worth a trip, where you can discover many animals and plants.
A hike to the national parks Curu and Cabo Blanco is also worthwhile. Here you can discover Costa Rica's unique flora and fauna, admire monkeys, iguanas and exotic birds. The local team will be happy to help you with the planning and execution of the excursions.
Besides surfing, why not try "real" horseback riding? A horseback ride is an ideal way to explore the more remote places of the Nicoya Peninsula and discover secluded spots. You will ride along the sea and also through the surrounding forests. The somewhat different sightseeing tour!
Who hasn't wanted to ride an ATV along the ocean or endless beaches? Then here in Costa Rica you have the ideal opportunity to do so! Along the coast and inland there are endless routes that you can explore with the ATVs. You can rent the ATVs for half or full days.

Directions Liberia:
From / to Liberia airport we will gladly shuttle you for 77 € per car, oneway (price divided by the number of passengers).
Another possibility for the journey is to take the bus or the cab. The bus takes you from Liberia 5 times a day for about 3 € to Tamarindo. From Tamarindo it is then about 100 € by cab again about 2 hours drive to the camp in Avellanas.
Directions San José:
Airport shuttle, oneway: 149 € per car (price divided by the number of passengers). Alternatively, you can take the public bus for about 11 €. However, keep in mind that the bus ride from San José to Avellanas takes about 7 hours and you may have to plan an overnight stay in San José on the day of arrival. Or you can simply take a cab for the 7 hours and rest in the meantime.

Before and after your stay at the camp, it is recommended to plan one night in a hostel in San José, because the journey to the camp takes about 7 hours.

Courses are provided to the traveler as part of a group. The size of the group usually varies between 4 and 12 surfers depending on the demand. Classes are usually in German or English. Courses are limited for people with reduced mobility.

Payment: The down payment of 20% of the travel price is payable immediately and to be transferred to our account stating the invoice number, plus any immediately payable services, such as insurance, processing fees or stop and airport surcharges. The balance is to be transferred no later than 30 days before departure also under indication of the invoice number on our account. For bookings less than 4 weeks before departure, the entire amount is due immediately and send a screenshot of the transfer by e-mail to us to avoid reminder fees.
