Your ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor Training

The ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor Training is the internationally recognised entry point into professional surf instruction. It prepares you to teach beginners and early intermediate surfers safely, systematically and effectively. At Pure Surfcamps, the training is combined with the required ILS Water Safety Award, giving you essential knowledge in water rescue, first aid and emergency management.

Dates for the ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor Training

Our ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor Training courses will take place at four selected Pure Surfcamps locations in 2026. All packages combine the ISA Level 1 course with the required ILS Water Safety Award and accommodation at the respective surf camp.

All courses include the ISA Level 1 training and the ILS Water Safety Award.

Choose an ISA Level 1 course

The courses take place in different surf regions and types of accommodation. The professional requirements and training components are comparable at all locations. The main differences are the destination, accommodation, travel dates and total price.

The in-person ISA course includes two training days. To complete the full ISA Level 1 certification, you must also complete or provide proof of the mandatory e-learning, the required surfing ability, 20 supervised practical hours and a valid lifeguard qualification.

Course Information 2026 ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor Course

To work professionally as a surf coach, you need expertise in both surf instruction (ISA) and water rescue (ILS). The two areas of training are therefore taught separately and then combined in a structured and practical way.

The ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor Course prepares you to teach beginners and early-intermediate surfers professionally. It combines ISA training in surf instruction and coaching with ILS lifesaving training in water rescue, first aid and emergency management.
