Water Safety Training & Refresher for Surf Coaches

The ILS Water Safety Award provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to work safely as a surf coach. During the course, you will train in water rescue, first aid, emergency management and the professional assessment of beach and ocean conditions.

For active surf instructors, the course also serves as an ILS Water Safety Refresher. It helps you keep your rescue skills up to date and renew your Water Safety certification at the required intervals.

Are you training to become a surf instructor for the first time?
Then the combined ISA Level 1 and ILS Water Safety Award package is the right choice.

Course content:

3-day ILS Water Safety course with theory and practical sessions
Suitable as a Water Safety qualification and as a refresher for active surf coaches
Training in Surf Coach Safety & Rescue Techniques
Aquatic First Aid and professional emergency management

Our ILS Water Safety courses take place at selected Pure Surfcamps locations. The package includes three training days, four nights and half board. Depending on your previous qualifications, you can complete the course as an initial Water Safety qualification or as a refresher.

COURSE INFORMATION 2026 Course Content of the ILS Water Safety Course

The ILS Water Safety course prepares surf coaches to identify hazards on the beach and in the water, carry out rescues safely and respond professionally in emergency situations. The training combines theoretical foundations with practical rescue and first aid sessions.
