New to Pure Surf Camp – Surf and Art House Ericeira. Only a few meters to the beach with great waves, social BBQ evenings and Lisbon just down the road.
While staying at Surf and Art House Ericeira you will be in the middle of Europes surfers Paradise. The beach is only a few minutes away on foot where you can surf, or learn to surf as it caters to all skill levels. If you are little more advanced, arguably Portugal’s best wave, Coxos, is 10 minutes away.
The camp itself is small and comfortable and is located in a quiet part of Ericeira. There are 3 main balcony areas, 2 of which overlook the ocean and are great to soak up some sun, you could also spend your afternoons watching breath taking sunsets or relaxing in the well manicured garden where you’ll find comfortable hammocks. Inside the camp is modern and well styled and there are a bunch or artworks made by local artists hanging on the wall.
Each week the team will host a social BBQ evening or two that can quickly turn into long nights partying in Lisbon. If you want to spend a night in, you also wont be bored as there is a games room with pool and foosball tables.
From Surf and Art House Ericeira you can look directly over the Atlantic Ocean. The beach is a couple of hundred meters away, and you can get to the world famous Coxos in under 10 minutes. If there are no waves at the local spot, the next beach break of Ribeira d’Ihlas is less than 5 minutes away in the car.
The old fishing village of Ericeira also has everything you need including bars, restaurants, supermarkets, surf shops and even a skate park at the Quiksilver Boardriders Club. In the 4km of coast surrounding the camp you have the 6 world-class breaks including Pedra Branca reef, Ribeira d’Ihlas and the hollow left of Coxos. And altogether in the 11km of coast in Ericeira there are 22 surf spots.
In the town of Ericeira you’ll find plenty of small local cafes and restaurants. One of our favourites is little spot called Pastelaria Pão da Vila, where we recommend getting a Galão, which is a Portuguese milk coffee, accompanied with a Pastel de Nata. A Pastel de Nata is a local sweet pastry filled with a type of pudding. You can either enjoy your afternoon snack at the cafe or take it with you and go hang out on the beach promenade.
Other culinary recommendations are the fish restaurants in town. As the local economy is still heavily centered around the fishing industry you can find some of the freshest seafood around. Two great spots are Esplanadas Furnas and das Mar à Vista.
If you want to check out a bar after dinner, there is Jukebox Bar and Ericeira Bar Pedro that can be good fun. Both serve great local wine and beer. They are not open too late however.
Manu has been part of our Pure Surf Family for 5 years. He is in charge of the Surf and Art House Ericeira as well as Sunset Surf Lodge. Next to his great love of the ocean and beach, Manu is a handyman extraordinaire, having completed a carpentry apprenticeship before starting at Pure. You’ll marvel at his handiwork around both camps in Erceira.
Lisa is a friendly and likeable yoga teacher as well as a qualified physiotherapist. She’s worked at various Pure Surf Camps and has a ton of experience. During the summer she lives in Portugal and can get you limber and fit for your next surf with her beachside yoga lessons. If you’re feeling a little sore or strained from your last surf, she can also kneed out those pains with her physiotherapist massage skills.
On the first floor you’ll find the 8 bed dorm room. The big sliding door gives you direct access to the terrace and a view of the ocean.
The terrace can be accessed via outside stairs for all the guests. The spacious and light room has 4 bunk beds and a shared bathroom across the hall. There is also another shared bathroom by the communal rumpus room where the pool table is.
All the rooms have been freshly renovated and newly furnished with custom furniture and beds making them all extremely comfortable.
There is a 4 person room available in which you have two bunk beds, and a private bathroom. The bathrooms are also new, clean, and full of light.
At Surf and Art House Ericeira there are 3 double/ twin single rooms available. These rooms are super comfortable, spacious and modern. Ideal couples or friends who want a bit more space for themselves.
One of the double rooms has its own private bathroom and the other two share one bathroom.
Behind the Surf and Art House Ericeira you have a small courtyard garden with hammocks, deck chairs, table and a BBQ area. Inside the camp you have a communal rumpus room with pool table, foosball table, couches and two adjoining balconies with a view over the Atlantic ocean. The camp is small and cosy yet still offers plenty of space to hang out with your new surf buddies after a successful day out in the waves.
